How to Get Nicolita's 40s Latin Glam Look

Nicolita has a signature style all her own. It's her 40's Latin glam look each season, that will transport you back to Cuba's Golden Era. The signature look is a swooped bang, finger wave curls, bold red lip and flirty long lashes. There's a lot of work that goes into creating this Classic beauty....especially her hypnotic curls.

Below are some helpful hints from WikiHow.com to create your own Nicolita latin style.

1. Curl your hair with hot rollers. To create the smooth, sculpted look that was popular in the 1940s, straighten your hair first (if it's not already straight). This will give you the smoothest (least frizzy) curls. After pulling out the hot rollers, brush them lightly. You want to soften the curls, but not separate them too much. Use hairspray. Do not scrunch. Don't use mousse or gel, as it gives hair a wet look and hard or sticky texture.

2. Make pin curls. These can be tricky at first if you're new to more involved hair styling. Pin-curls are a 1940's staple, and are necessary for many 1930s and 1950s hairstyles as well.

Find a setting lotion that works well your hair type. This may take some trial and error, so be patient, ladies!
Start with washed hair, and let it air dry or blow dry so that it is still damp. It is most useful to put setting lotion into an atomizer (plus, lots more fun!) because it can be applied more evenly.
Comb through hair and part into sections. Sections of hair can be from ½ inch to 1½ inch thickness, depending on how thick your hair is, or how it reacts to curling. If you want a certain set, curl in the directions that it will need to go in the final style. If you want just the ends curled, start with the underneath sections of hair, and work up.
Wind the curl around your finger, making sure that the strand isn't twisted in any manner that would disrupt the direction of the curl. Once the end is started, it is easier to roll up more.
For more wavy curls, roll pin curls in a spiral.
For more ringlet styles, remember to keep the curls uniform and make a little donut shape.
Pin with bobby pins (best for spiraled pin curls) or regular hair pins (better for pin curls that don't lay as flat).
To make waves along the face, wave clips can be used, but these are hard to sleep in and best for use with hairdryers.
Avoid rolling ends too tightly, or they will be frizzy.
Despite the difficulty this may be to master, after only a few sets you should find it easier to do and take less and less time. Actually, this is a very low maintenance style because it can be done the night before, and only needs to be brushed out in the morning and dolled up with just a few pins. And sets like this can double up on evenings with a just a few more pins! A set can last from one to five days if kept up at night in a snood or scarf.

3. Make Victory rolls or side reverse rolls. Possibly one of the most recognizable looks of the 1940's, and one of the most flattering looks, top reverse rolls are swept up away from the face, rolled and pinned toward the top of the head. Side reverse rolls are one of the most familiar of the 1940's hairstyles. This style is popular on most women, because it is good for most face types and figures. To create them, roll a thick strand of hair into a circle and pin it down; it will take a lot of practice to achieve the desired look.

Women with round or wide faces benefit from the height of the hair, that elongates the face.
Women with oval faces will also look good with this hairstyle.
Women with narrow faces can style the rolls more outward than up, and will balance their features, but it may not work for all women of narrow faces.
Women with a good profile will look exceptionally well with side reverse rolls.
It can be a good look for women with glasses, so long as the frames aren't so thick on the sides as to disrupt the flow of the hair up from the face, so wire glasses would look best.
Women who want a better balance between their figure and face will achieve a nice balance with this hairstyle. The hips, bust, and hairdo will all be in better proportion for curvier women, to heavier women.
Slender women should wear this style in a more petite manner with limited height and width, to keep proper proportions.

Since my trip back to Cuba, the concept of Family has created a deeper meaning for me. Growing up as a little girl, it has always been a puzzle of trying to understand who is my cousin and how we are related. Primarily because in the Cuban culture, even your family-friends are sometime referred to as 'cousins'. So, I'm trying to create my family tree right now by following some of the helpful tips I've come across online.

You've decided to dig into your family history but aren't sure where to begin? These 10 basic steps will get you started on the fascinating journey into your past.

1. Begin with Names

First names, middle names, last names, nicknames...names often provide an important window into the past. Names in your family tree can be found by looking at old certificates and documents, by asking your relatives, and by looking at family photos and newspaper clippings (wedding announcements, obituaries, etc.). Search especially for maiden names for any female ancestors as they may help identify the parents, taking you back a generation in the family tree. Naming patterns used in the family may also hold a clue to previous generations. Family surnames were often adopted as given names, as were middle names which sometimes indicate the maiden name of a mother or grandmother. Watch also for nicknames, as they may also help you identify your ancestors. Expect to encounter plenty of spelling variations as name spellings and pronounciations generally evolve over time, and the surname your family uses now may not be the same as the one they began with. Names are also often just written down wrong, by people who spelled phonetically, or by individuals trying to transcribe messy handwriting for an index.

2. Compile Vital Statistics

As you search for the names in your family tree, you should also gather the vital statistics that go with them. Most importantly you should look for dates and places of births, marriages and deaths. Again, turn to the papers and photos in your home for clues, and ask your relatives for any details they can provide. If you run across conflicting accounts -- two different birth dates for great Aunt Emma, for example -- just record them both until more information comes along which helps point to one or the other.

3. Collect Family Stories

As you quiz your relatives about names and dates, take time to elicit and write down their stories as well. The 'history' in your family history begins with these memories, helping you to really get to know the people your ancestors were. Among these stories you may learn of special family traditions or famous family legends that have been passed down from generation to generation. While they will likely contain some creative remembrances and embellishments, family stories generally have some basis in fact, providing clues for further research.

4. Select a Focus

After gathering names, dates and stories about your family, the next step is to choose a specific ancestor, couple, or family line on which to focus your search. You could choose to learn more about your dad's parents, an ancestor you were named after, or all descendants of your maternal grandparents. The key here isn't what or who you choose to study, just that it is a small enough project to be manageable. This is especially important if you're just starting out on your family tree quest. People who try to do it all at once tend to get bogged down in details, often overlooking important clues to their past.

5. Chart Your Progress

Genealogy is basically one big puzzle. If you don't put the pieces together in just the right way, then you'll never get to see the final picture. To make sure your puzzle pieces end up in the proper positions you should use pedigree charts and family group sheets to record your research data and keep track of your progress. Genealogy software programs are another good option for recording your information, and will allow you to print out the data in a nice variety of chart formats. Blank genealogy charts can also be downloaded and printed for free from many different online sources.

Every year in Miami, Mercedes Benz sponsors a fashion week where designers can showcase their latest and greatest swim designs.

This year there were twenty-seven designers that had the opportunity to present their newest swim wear models. The fashion week was from July 15-19 at the Raleigh in Miami.

After looking at a few designers, Nicolita's collection stood out. This year, designer Nicole Di Rocco of Nicolita had a wonderful collection. She used many different colors to showcase different design details. From polka-dots to Latin influenced bikini tops with sleeves, the swimsuits were in reds, greens, whites, blues, golds, and yellows. Each of the colors was vibrant and had many details looking as though the model had just stepped out Havana, Cuba.

Many of the various suits were accentuated with rope braids, creating a distinguished look. Overall, the designs looked to be fitted for women that wanted to relax in the warm sun of Havana.

One of they key accessories used by all the models was red lipstick. This vibrant color complemented the swimsuit style and design. Although the bright lipstick color stuck out, it allowed for the swimsuit to complement the models skin tone instead of the cosmetics.

The designs were almost reminiscent of the 1950's by being conservative towards todays micro-bikini's but showing enough skin to remain sexy.

At the end of the runway behind all of the models, designer Nicole Di Rocco came out waving to all of the guests to thank them for their attendance. Overall, a promising set of designs.

Nicolita's swimwear ranged in price from $100 to $150. Although the price may seem high, the price is reasonable for a bikini that looks both sexy and classy. The majority of the collection can be found online at http://www.mynicolita.com.

As the world's most prominent Swimwear lines gathered in Miami Beach for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, the sun glared and watered glittered beautifully to prepare for the setting of long runways and model mayhem.

Miami is a perfect city full of life and culture to present Swim Collections year after year.

As Monday arrived, the Grande Cabana Tent at The Raleigh Hotel was a buzz with excited attendees and busy production staff. The Nicolita Show was set and ready to start at 7:30pm. Lights dimmed and the first look down the runway was a blue one piece from The Madeira Tropical Group. The blue print is of wooden panels while the gold braided straps were made to mimic rope, very clever. Models strutted down past flashing bulbs in bright Cuban inspired works of glossy spandex while polka-dotted over lay art shined for the invited guests. Rallying in the show bright burst of Red, Yellow and Greens took shape in the form of twisted bandeau tops and tied 'no-pinch' bottoms adorn with traditional ruffled fiesta sleeves.

The Nicolita Swimwear wear line started and was founded in 2005 by Designer, Nicole Di Rocco. This year's collection was inspired by her Cuban Heritage and the concept of styling for the Latina or Curvy figure. Celebrating the more shapely body form is welcoming to all women, of all races. This was evident even in the casted models that were booked for this show in Miami. Models with pretty curves flaunted their happy figures with pride for what they look like and who they are.

Coming to a close of a great day under the tents, a celebration was forming at the Official After-Party in The Raleigh Hotel Penthouse! Nicole announced a special collaboration with SiTV had been filmed. As a dream come true, Di Rocco received the opportunity to reunite her parent's with their homeland of Cuba; to do an on-location photo shoot for Nicolita Swimwear. Having been away from Cuba for after 49 years it was a heart-warming way for them to share with Di Rocco all the cultural heritage of her family's roots. It's the 1940s. You jump out of your Cadillac convertible to lay out on el Varadero, sip some mojitos, and get some sun. Nicole Di Rocco has made such time travel possible with her funky line of Cuba-inspired bikinis. It's not just the cuts that are Cuban retro - some of suits have prints of platanos, dominos, cigars, and even the mountain ranges of Cuba's Vinales Valley.

Di Rocco, a Cuban-American from California, created Nicolita Swimwear in 2003 to bring her parents' Cuban heritage to life. In 2009, a documentary was made when the designer traveled to Cuba for an on-location photo shoot and to reunite her parents with their homeland and family after 49 years.

She was in Miami on Monday for her runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. New Times spoke to Di Rocco about what inspired the collection, her trip to Cuba, and the documentary she created to bring nostalgic Cubans back to their homeland.

At her runway show, Di Rocco included fun, vintage-inspired Cuban-style bottom - which, by the way, have more coverage on the hips, a heart-shaped backside, and no-pinch-fit elastic. They're perfect for Latinas' backside curves. King of fashion kitsch, Jeremy Scott, would probably crown the sassy Nicolita as his queen, with all of her cutesy Cuban sandwiches and mojitos printed right on her old-world bikinis.

New Times: What inspired you to take the trip back to your parents homeland?
Nicole Di Rocco: It was just this past year when I found out that Obama was allowing Cuban Americans to go back. I've always wanted to go back with my parents. I thought it was important to at least see where they were born. After some convincing and a lot of paperwork, we were able to put together this trip. I knew I wanted to bring Nicolita to Cuba because that's really the reason why I started Nicolita, to have the opportunity to reach back to my Cuban heritage. Growing up on the West Coast, you really don't have that everyday influence of Cuban heritage and roots.

So tell me about Nicolita.

I created this character, which is my nickname, but she's my muse. She's just this fun, flirty Cubanita that wants to do the strangest things in her caliente bikinis. I have had her go to Spain in a bullfighting ring, and to belly dancing in Morocco.

All the photos that we did were all over historical areas of Cuba. I have a cigar bikini that I got to shoot in a cigar factory on a rolling table. I was looking to recapture that moment of the old world and how it was, and give that back to my parents. It was a really emotional trip. It was life-changing. Absolutely life-changing.

So if you've been designing for eight years, where does the inspiration keep coming from?
Well I've always wanted it to have this '40s feel and these old images of Cuba. But because I couldn't go back, I had to invent my own way of travel. And it's evolved throughout the years [laughs]. But it's always been about her being Cuban.

What inspired this particular collection that you showed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami?
Yeah. I've always wanted to do this show, but I guess I was just waiting for the right time. I've always designed these fun, flirty, timeless pieces, but another big part of what I did this season was I was able to create custom-printed fabrics, and have a literal translation -- I mean I had going down the runway a Cuban sandwich and a mojito that I made in these prints. Last year, I made tostones, platanos, dominos, cigars. I'm just creating a fun, kitschy, looks, and am novelty-involved with it.

Did you spend any time in Miami at all?
Over the years, we'd always go back to Miami and see family. My parents have an apartment off of 18th Street and James Avenue, and to be able to actually show where I used to walk to the beach every summer as a little kid. We'd get our Cuban sandwiches at Latin American Cafe and eat lunch on the sand, and to be able to be there at this prestigious event as a headlining designer was... I mean. Somebody pinch me.

I was concerned, thinking, "How are Cubans in Miami going to accept this?" But you know what? I've had such an overwhelming support of love. I think it's because I'm presenting it in a way that I'm not doing anything political. I wanted to learn about my family and where I'm from. That was taken away from me... Through the documentary I made they can take this journey that they've longed for without crossing the boundaries of what they believe in. I'm so happy with it, because I hope when Cubans see it, they feel a little closer to what they long for. What is it to be Cuban? What is it that my parents lived?

show during Miami Swimwear Fashion Week. Chifles plantain chips are
low in fat and use all natural, organic ingredients – the perfect

“Chifles was inspired by the memories my husband and I had of the
tasty plantain snacks made by Cuban street vendors,” said Peggy

Dj Tina T has been confirmed to dj at the Nicolita show in Miami at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, July 2010. Born and raised in Seattle Washington, she came to Los Angeles to pursue her passion of music. She entered in the d j contest hosted by hip hop radio station POWER 106 Fm
and the world famous Big Boy in the Morning Show. But her big break was when she won LA Weekly's first ever DJ spin off battle.

It is important to Nicolita to smell great all the time. Her favorite perfume is Royal Violets by Augustin Reyes. It is a sweet smelling fragrance, that she started wearing when she was a baby. The Perfume's Cuban roots reminds her of her own heritage.

Fine Perfumery Since 1927

Since 1927 Agustín Reyes®, Inc. has created fine perfumes and personal care products. Using handcrafted recipes, a tradition of quality was established that continues today. Agustín Reyes I, began his career as an apprentice to a pharmacist. In his youth he learned to formulate products for health and beauty. He possessed a natural aptitude for chemistry, but also an entrepreneurial curiosity. On December 6, 1927 he created the formula for Royal Violets®. This day fragrance whose slogan would eventually become “el perfume de la juventud” (a fragrance for the young). This simple origin in Havana, Cuba was the first chapter of his American Dream.

The people of Cuba loved those first products. Because of that success he founded our company. Many people still remember the first factory. There in the laboratory he created many other favorite products including: Axil, Agua de Portugal, Nuit de Samedi, and others. They milled their own sandalwood and lavender soaps. Seven layers of gold leaf adorned the boxes of their biggest seller, then-called Violetas Rusas.

Visionary Movement

Agustín Reyes II worked alongside his father in the factory in Havana. He was encouraged to study chemical engineering. So he set off to study at Georgetown Prep and later MIT. Then the revolution, and the family left its country and its 33-year business in 1960, smuggling out the secret recipe for violetas. Agustín Reyes II, turned down lucrative job offers with cosmetic giants in order to stay close to his family in Miami. He used his education and experience to improve the factory with modern technology.

He jump-stared the business, repackaging the signature scent and renaming it “Royal Violets”. During the next 20 years the family went on to produce sun care products, dusting powders and other perfume lines.

Family Tradition

In keeping with the same family traditions and values of his father and grand-father, Agustín W. Reyes III. studied at Emory University. He returned with a master's degree in organic chemistry and the desire to guide the company from its home-based office to a proper plant. Today the company sells its' colognes throughout the United States, South America and as far away as Saudi Arabia. They do contract packaging, like body mists and alternative fragrances, in addition to their own products.

For the company's 75 th Anniversary they launched a collection of spray bottles, including the classic Royal Violets edition. They will eventually add hair gel and body wash. Most recently for the company is the expansion of their shampoo line, which now includes three kids shampoos: Royal Violets, Cherry and Watermelon, with the re-invented classic baby shampoo now with Chamomile.

National Model Search for Nicolita Swimwear's 2011 Collection

Nicolita Swimwear and ExploreModeling.com have teamed up again to discover one female to represent Nicolita Swimwear's 2011 collection (www.MyNicolita.com). This nationwide casting for models between the ages of 18 and 35 kicked off April 21, 2010 and will continue through June 25, 2010.

Paradiso Girls at Les Dueux, Hollywood, CA

I was invited by my BBF at Interscope to watch the Paradiso girls perform at Les Duex last night. I'm sure you all have heard the crazy & amazing club banger "Patron, Tequila ". If not, google it and listen to the explicit version. You won't be able to get it out of your head.

When we arrived to Les Duex, it was mayhem outside trying to get in the club. Within 10 minutes, we were in and ready to listen the Paradiso girls. (It totally brought me back to my Hollywood clubbing days.) Since "Patron, Tequila " (the explicit version) is such a crazy song, the anticipation was killing us for the girls to get on stage and perform. They took stage at 12:30am, and performed 2 songs and "Patron, Tequila ". The stage was not that big, so the dance moves were limited. Their vocals were great! A couple wardrobe malfunctions slipping off, but overall it was a fun show to watch.

I'm predicting this song to be a soundtrack for Summer 2009...or atleast with me and my friends.
Kind of reminds me of the Pussy Cat Doll's first big hit,"Don't Cha" and how that song kicked off their amazing career.

New Obession, Vintage Bottles

During a fabulous trip to Santa Ynez for wine tasting, I came across these extremely cool vintage bottles at a tasting room. I love how the bottle designer adhered the glass crosses and Purple SeaFans to the lids. I think I might attempt a Do-It- Yourself home project to recreate these stunning pieces...just another fun project to add to my list. I'll post pics when I am done.

South Beach...Preparing to film Model Latina TV Show

Jenelle and I just arrived into FLL and are heading to South Beach for some R&R before we shoot Model Latina. Lucky for us, it's the Winter Music conference and there are tons of parties and tons of people. I'm thinking a couple beach days & party at REHAB South Beach to show off our Caliente Nicolita bikinis.

DAY 1
Today at the Beach I wore the One Shoulder Gorgeous Gondola Bikini top and hipster tie bottoms. I love this top because it is so different and very comfortable to wear. Although the one shoulder tanline may be odd, it's easy to slip the strap under your arm and sun-bath wearing it as a tube top.
Our hipster bottoms fit soooo comfortable. This style has our signature 'No Pinch Fit' front and cover stitch pant leg on the backside. Nicolita Reality TV Stikes again: Model Latina 2009

I am so excited to announce that Nicolita will be featured on another amazing Reality TV show this August 2009. We were asked by the producers at Model Latina to deliver the first assignment for the girls competing. I can't give away to much details, but obviously since it's a Nicolita assignment, you know there will be gorgeous bikinis, vintage style, 40's hair and make up and Latin flare.

For all of you not familiar with the show, Model Latina, it features '12 contestants from across the U.S. prove they have it all—style, sophistication, and smarts. In this reality series, young women of various backgrounds, shapes and sizes live together and compete for a modeling contract, cash and prizes. Beauty is only the beginning on Sí TV’s Model Latina!' Peter Alexander Store Opening

Tonight I went to the store opening of Peter Alexander on Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles. For those of you who are not familiar with the Peter Alexander brand, Peter is considered the "King of Pajamas" in Australia. The 'theme' of the night was the staff wearing shirts that said "SLEEP WITH ME". Cute idea:)

The store opening had a signature red carpet and celebrities such as Alicia Silverstone, Katherine Heigl, Mandy Moore. The store overall was super cute with a touch of vintage suitcases and glamor upholstered fitting rooms. Definitely a Nicolita favorite with his choices in decor. Once you browsed through the store, the VIP party was in the back parking structure. They converted the car port into a pretty cool after party. Black carpeted floors, white lounge beds, and they even had a live photo shoot directed by John Gagun, Guestar production photographer. I had a wonderful time enjoying a glass of wine and meeting everyone associated with Peter Alexander

Today was the airing of the second episode of the Janice Dickinson Show, featuring Nicolita Bikinis and Swimwear. The last episode showed the casting and John and I picking the best of the bunch to test shoot for Nicolita. CC, Traci and Paulina all had something interesting that the Nicolita model needs. This photo shoot was produced in less than two weeks because the filming date for Nicolita was slated early. Needless to say, Nicolita bikini headquarters was in full swing getting ready to shoot our 2009 collection.

After watching the airing of the second episode, I was again thrilled how everything looked on camera. A little drama did not hurt anyone and the photos looked awesome. CC Fontane is the new face of Nicolita 2009 Collection. She is an amazing model and a pleasure to work with. Janice Dickinson Model Agency Show, episode 1

I just watched the show and I'm thrilled how the first episode turned out. I was able to watch the show on YOU TUBE, because I'm currently in Africa on my Honeymoon. If you have not seen it, go to YOUTUBE.com and search : The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency S4E1P4

I must say it was fun to see how they edited my conversations and my confessionals. The Nicolita casting was in the forth "act" of the show. I had no idea what to expect Janice or the casting to be like. I definitely wanted to get the most out of this experience and out of the photo shoot for our 2009 Collection. I brought with me to the casting my photographer, John Ganun . John is an incredible photographer and has a great eye for detail. It was nice to have a second opinion to select Nicolita. In the casting, John and I choose Paulina, Traci, and CC to test shoot for NICOLITA. It was difficult to pick just one model and hope she would be great. Each girl had something different to offer as the face of NICOLITA. Once the models were made up in their NICOLITA hair and make up, then I was able to decide who was going to be the next NICOLITA model.
In our 2009 Collection, Nicolita travels to Italy and , ofcourse, has an Italian love interest. We picked Chandler to be Nicolita's Italian love interest. He did an amazing job considering this was his first job of the show. Can't wait to see episode 2 where they show the Nicolita photo shoot in action.

My perfect wedding dress....Swimwear designer goes Bridal, A Custom Wedding Dress by Nicolita

When I got engaged in May 2007, I had a list of priorities I needed to accomplish first before beginning able to plan the rest of my wedding.

1st - finding the perfect venue
2nd - finding a church near by that we could be married at after 4pm.
3rd - finding the perfect dress.

Since I am in the swim wear/apparel manufacturing industry, the thought had crossed my mind to design my own dress. However, I understand how much work is involved in developing a new swim wear pattern, let alone a wedding gown. I decided to check out what the prof
essionals had to offer and I searched online wedding gowns. After my searches, I had an idea of which styles I wanted to try on. I traveled to many bridal boutique and tried on numerous wedding dresses. There were many beautiful gowns but either the price was too expensive or the price was right but there were too many alterations I wanted to make.

So after I realized I might not be able to buy my dress 'off the showroom' floor, I started to cost out how much designing and making my dress would be. I found a professional seamstress and contacted silk and lace distributors in Los Angeles and New York. (Searching the internet for fabric is another great source.)

About my design.
I knew I wanted a mermaid style, low v- back, Chantilly Laced edges, Barathea Silk, cover buttons and sleeves/straps. I also knew I wanted a fun party short dress as well. Originally I was going to make two dresses, but after working with the pattern, I was able to add a ZIPPER and have my wedding gown coverted into a mini cocktail dress. 2 FOR 1....It was one of the HITS at my wedding.
My photographer, Jasmine Star did an amazing job capturing the details on my dress.

The photos below give you an idea of how and where I added the zipper and how to put on the dress

I first put on the mini dress, then I stepped into the skirt and zipped the two pieces onto each other. I had to use two zippers because it was difficult to find an accurate sized zipper that would work for my measurements.

The zipper was hidden by the scalped lace edge.

I only told a my mother and bridesmaids about the zipper on the dress because I wanted the reveal to be a surprise for guests. After dinner and the bouquet toss, it was time for my Groom to take off my garter and toss it. I decided at this time I wanted my groom to take off the zipper first and then take off my garter. The reactions from my guests were great. Everyone started to shout out and some people event thought he ripped my dress. It was one of my favorite moments of my wedding.

This photo was taken at the end of the night. After dinner, all of the tables and chairs were cleared out and a candle lite walkway lead the guest back to the valet. It was a magical night and my dream wedding come true.

New Season, New House

I'm really not sure about how much I can say about the upcoming season of the JDMA show, but the previews say the Janice is "moving in". And this is confirmed. Janice moved into the "model house'. The house, I mean mansion, is a gorgeous modern house in Bel Air. The entrance of the house is shaped like an igloo. And randomly there is a motorcycle in the entrance water fountain. The mansion is just as wild as the show. Obviously having all the models living together just creates more drama that we all love to watch. Especially having Janice living in the mansion as well. One can only imagine what will happen.

When I came in for the model casting, the casting was held at the house where her 'agency office' is. It was really cool how the office and the house blended together. Very neat, clean, and white modern interior design. I remember walking around the house and seeing a jacuzzi room with fur carpet all over the walls and ceiling. When I got to meet the models, Janice sat right next to me on her white leather sofa. It was fun and the models were great.

Muscular Development Magazine Photo Shoot

This was a great photo shoot. The models wore Nicolita's Rosita lace bottoms in Rose, and cream color. They looked amazing and heated up the set. This magazine is currently being sold so check it out!!

Meeting Janice

Like I mentioned, at first I was nervous to meet Janice, but after we finished our first day of filming the casting for Nicolita I had a great time working with her and chatting with her. She loved her Nicolita bikini I made exclusively for her. It was a beautiful jewel Purple Tahitian Temptress one piece. Very sexy and very classy. I must honestly say that in person, Janice looks terrific. Very fit and her skin was glowing.

Reality TV is a reality for NICOLITA...

Living in LA, there are reality TV shows being filmed on every corner. It kind of becomes a way of life when you drive in Beverly Hills and on your right you see Dr Rey (from E! Dr. 90210) in his Porsche with a beautiful model in the passenger seat.... and a Camera Guy seating on the back filming them...(This actually happened to me) Reality TV is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine so seeing a show being filmed while you're driving is fun for me. And its even MORE fun for me when I'm actually on a show.

This past June, NICOLITA was asked to take part in filming the new season of the Janice Dickinson Model Agency Show for Oxygen Network. It was perfect timing when they asked us because we were planning to shoot our 2009 Catalog and we were searching for the next face of Nicolita. At first I was thrilled. Then I was worried because 'what if Janice didn't like my designs or the models were bad and all of this would get published on National and International TV'. After discussing all the facts/ details with the producers I was excited to meet Janice and find my Nicolita model. The whole experience was a blast!

Photo shoot with Adrianne Curry

I had the pleasure working with the first winner of AMERICA's TOP MODEL, Adrianne Curry today on a photo shoot for Agenda magazine. The photo shoot theme was retro Hollywood, so I was in heaven styling bikinis for this. I was super excited to work with Adrianne because I was a fan of her show "My Fair Brady". She definitely lived up to her fun and out spoken character on the show. Every time she put on a new bikini she took a picture of herself on her phone and emailed it to her Husband, Christopher Knight. She looked amazing and has a great bikini body. I was impressed with how professional she was working with the photographer and getting the shots needed for the magazine.

I pulled bikinis from our classic styles, Set Sail, OLE, and a couple bikinis from our NEW 2009 Collection . The 'Amore', (which is the beautiful white and black one piece featured to the left) is from Nicolita's 2009 Collection. This one piece swim suit is truly unique.

Kelly Jo Grandy did a fantastic job creating Adrianne's retro-glam make up.

It was a little chilly in the Studio....buuuurrrrr..

Adrianne is wearing Nicolita's bermuda top bikini, The Set Sail. The triangle bra features a grommet bow tie and the bottoms have little white nautical buttons. This bikini is extremely flattering on all body types because of the diagonal stripes. The Set Sail will forever be a classic.

Adrianne is wearing the 2009 Knotty Nicolita one piece. I updated the design of this bikini with a molded bra cup and criss cross straps for more support. The back of this one piece is gorgeous and sexy.

Perparing for the 2009 Photo shoot

A lot is involved before a photo shoot. Besides having all the bikinis and products ready to shoot, (which is countless hours from design to conception) I need to really visualize the entire day. I play out how the day will unfold from beginning to end, in order to produce a photo shoot that achieves all my goals. I start to create a time line from when all the props need to be delivered, kraft services (food), setting up hair and make up, changing room, bathroom signs, even DO NOT TOUCH/ DO NOT ENTER signs, etc... all these details impact how the photos will turn out. Another key factor I had to plan for was the film crew of the Janice Dickinson Show filming the entire photo shoot. It was quite the challenge, but me and my Nicolita team are always up for it.

When I design each collection, I get inspired for where Nicolita is in her life, who is she with and what fun activities is she doing. Nicolita's 2009 Collection reflects her travels though Italy. I traveled and searched for a location that could capture all the different Italian scenes I created for Nicolita to experience. After I booked our Italian inspired Beverly hills location, John Ganun, the photographer, and Alejandro Rivera, Green lab Design, did a walk through and set up all the shots. The photos below look a bit silly, but they were KEY in order to be able to shoot everything in one day. For example, these photos are the BEFORE and AFTER of the
Spanish Fly bikini Collection.

Monaco...Here I come!

I'm off to Monaco to attend a gift suite for the World Music Awards. I literally just got back from China 3 days ago. I'm definitely racking up my frequent flier points. This will be my first trip to the French Riviera. Not sure what to pack besides my bikinis. I'll keep you all posted on this exciting trip. I'm going to check out NICE for a few days and head to Monaco for a week for the show. Looking forward to eating some yummy crepes.

Yes, Brittany Spears!
As cheesy as this sounds, I was really excited to meet her and give her a Nicolita bikini. (Actually 5 bikinis, but who's counting) She took the knotty Nicolita, Set Sail, Tahitian Temptress, Frutas and Platanos. She was excited to show off the bikinis after she shed the LBs from her baby. She also picked up some bikini jewelry designed by Angel Fish.
